A Feast of Knowledge

Kalos Christian Academy carefully procures God-honoring curriculum. Students engage with primary sources rather than relying on textbooks and worksheets. Thus, they develop the habit of paying attention by carefully narrating what they’ve read or observed. Therefore, KCA aims to provide a rich educational experience, presenting students with a feast of knowledge. Each lesson is taught from Biblical worldview and allows students to explore Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

Additionally, living books and dedicated teachers make lessons come alive, engaging the student’s imagination. Grammar Stage (K-5) at Kalos Christian Academy emphasizes the importance of acquiring knowledge and fostering wonder during the younger years. This approach involves using various methods such as songs, chants, games, and repetition to engage children in learning.

Charlotte Mason

From a Charlotte Mason perspective, the grammar school curriculum should be rich in living books that engage children’s natural curiosity. Children should be immersed in detailed narrative histories, classic literature, and nature studies during these formative years. These allow them to form their own connections with God’s creation rather than receiving predigested facts. The focus should be on short, focused lessons that maintain attention and encourage careful observation. Whether examining a flower, narrating a passage, or copying a poem with beautiful penmanship, curriculum is a feast of wonder. Foreign language learning should continue through direct use and conversation rather than rote grammar study. Mathematics should be taught with manipulatives and real-life applications and engage the imagination. At the same time, science education centers on nature study through firsthand observation, detailed drawings, and nature journals.

Classical Christian

The primary aim of our curriculum is to master learning tools. These tools include phonics, arithmetic, and narration, which are the foundation for future studies. In addition, the mastery of essential learning tools fosters confidence in students as they explore and discover God’s creation.

Finally, prioritizing a cohesive learning experience, Kalos Christian Academy inspires wonder and awe. Moreover, lessons are not divided into subjects; instead, they are presented within their context. For example, second-grade students learn about ancient Egypt in history and geography. Meanwhile, they learn about dehydration and mummification in science, build pyramids in math, and write in hieroglyphics in art.
